How Savarkar Ended Early Loud Namaz Calls in Kala Pani (Cellular Jail)

Even though there were requests not to disturb the whole prison with loud namaz calls, a bunch of Mus!im inmates felt it was a key part of their religion and kept doing it.

So, under Savarkar's leadership, many Hindu prisoners began to sing their own religious songs and verses from the Ramayana just as loudly.

Whenever the prison staff complained, Savarkar told them, "Why should you object to his prayer? Either stop all of them or let everyone be free to pray as he likes."

Eventually, this stopped the early morning calls to prayer in the prison.

Savarkar wrote: "One nuisance cancelled the other. What punishment could not stop, counter-goondaism had silenced."
