The CBI has revealed that the 1994 ISRO spy case against former scientist Nambi Narayanan was fabricated by Kerala police officer S Vijayan.

Vijayan had detained Maldivian woman Mariyam Rasheeda after she rejected his advances and, discovering her connection to ISRO scientist D Shasikumaran, began surveilling her and her friend Fauzia Hasan.

Rasheeda was arrested under the Foreigners Act for overstaying her visa, and as her custody was about to expire, Vijayan filed a false report leading to the arrest of four ISRO scientists, including Narayanan.

The CBI has recommended prosecuting several former police officials, including RB Sreekumar, Siby Mathews, S Vijayan, KK Joshua, and PS Jayaprakash, for their involvement in the conspiracy.
