The grand creation was unveiled during the celebration of Vivah Panchami, commemorating the divine wedding of Lord Ram and Sita in the Treta Yuga. The sculpture, designed for public viewing, stands majestically in the northeast corner of Rangbhoomi Maidan, constructed with approximately 70 quintals of rice and boasting dimensions of 120 feet in length and a height of over 91 feet. This awe-inspiring masterpiece was a collaborative effort, with the lead in construction headed by Satish Gujral, an artist from Madhya Pradesh, India. Gujral, known for his artistic prowess, previously led the construction of a 10,800 feet Sita-Ram sculpture in Ayodhya, India, last year. What sets this creation apart is the absence of any artificial coloring; instead, Jitendra Mahaseth, the President of Janakpur Industry and Commerce Association, revealed that 11 varieties of rice were carefully chosen for the sculpture. Mayor Manoj Sah of Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City expressed his delight over the inauguration of the sculpture during the grand celebration of Vivah Panchami. He stated, "This monumental addition enhances the charm of our city. There was a time when Swayambar (self-choice ceremony) of Sita and Ram was organized at this very location. Now, a sculpture stands in its place, a joyous coincidence." Merely Because A Tomb Has Been In Existence For More Than 100 Years Not A Ground To Declare It As Protected Monument : Madras High Court Justice M Dhandapani was dealing with a plea seeking removal or relocation of the Tomb of David Yale and Joseph Hymners situated in the compound of Law College within the Madras High Court campus. The court noted that for a monument to be of national importance two conditions are to be fulfilled – firstly, the structure should be of historical, archaeological or artistic interest and secondly that the said structure should have been in existence for not less than 100 years. “From the above provision of law, it transpires that two conditions have to be fulfilled for an ancient structure to be branded as an ancient monument of national importance and to be declared as a protected structure of archaeological importance. The first of the condition is that the structures, erection, sculpture, inscription, place of interment, etc., should be of historical, archaeological or artistic interest and secondly that the said structure, erection, sculpture, inscription, place of interment, etc., should have been in existence for not less than one hundred years. Without satisfying the twin conditions, the said ancient structure cannot be declared as a structure of national importance to be treated as a protected monument,” The court said.
